Ford Thunderbird convertible 2001 · An American classic that recalls the 1950s, · Absolutely spotless and in as new condition, · Smooth and ideal for Highway 1, · If you want to look sexy at the wheel, this is the car for you! This version of the Thunderbird is a throwback to the original two-passenger T-Bird of 1955. Just look at the exterior styling, which boasts of an egg crate grill and round headlamps. The rear end has a wedge profile and rather old-style rear lights. So, this classic two-seater was intended as a trip down memory lane, with a very comfortable interior to match. The 280-hp overhead cam V8 provides ample power for the average driver and is mated to a 5-speed automatic with optional manual gear change accessed by flipping the gear change to the right. In practice, you won’t use it much. You sit fairly low in the car, both of the seats being comfortably adjustable and more than adequate for long journeys. The interior is practical and not festooned with dozens of buttons like today’s automobiles, which is refreshing. Just start the T-Bird and go is a good motto, for it’s very easy to drive and you soon find yourself moving along nicely. This is really a comfortable touring car, with the emphasis more on comfort and some sparkle rather than extreme performance. This, for the average driver, is a good thing, the T-Bird being very much an automobile for romantic country weekends. On the freeway, you sweep along in fine style, with plenty of push if you need it. I drove the car with the top down. On the freeway, the wind certainly ruffled my hair, but not to the point of distraction. Wear a cap or hat! Visibility out of the rear with the top up is a little limited, so careful use of the side mirrors is advised. I took the car for most of the time on country roads with some steep, almost hairpin bends, where we had a nice time. The acceleration is fairly responsive, with 0 to 60 just south of 7 seconds said to be possible, although most drivers will take more time. Cornering was very pleasant, once you realized that extremes were out of the question. The suspension seemed a trifle stiff on bumpy roads, but when I started motoring, it was fine. Adjust your speed, head into the corner, and then motor your way out of it with judicious pouring on of the accelerator—very smooth, controlled, and enjoyable. This is a nice way to spend an afternoon, one that would not alarm your passenger. Think Highway 1 around Big Sur, and you’re in the right place. Only a small number of these T-Birds were built, so they are reasonably rare and quite desirable. If you are looking for an unusual and pleasant daily driver, or are empty nesters looking for that romantic weekend car or a boulevard cruiser, especially an American one, look no further. Many women own these cars, which are ideal for social outings, dare I say ladies who lunch? This is a touring car, designed for comfortable driving. It provides a pleasant trip down memory lane. This 2001 Thunderbird is in black matched by the interior. It has only 26,000 miles on it, a very low mileage for a T-Bird of this vintage. The previous owner, who bought it from Len, has looked after it carefully and it’s immaculate. A very nice low-mileage example of this increasingly hard-to-find American classic, this immaculate T-Bird seeks a loving owner. Strongly recommended if you want to look alluring in a low-slung automobile and are along for sustained ownership
